TEEN AND ADULT ACTING FOR TV & FILM

Scene work, cold reading and auditioning skills will be introduced, breaking down the text and solving the who, what, when, where and whys of each character. We bring in what came before and where are we going?  Actors will learn to be brilliant detectives in uncovering in the text the absolute truth of the material thru established problem solving techniques. We are building upon solid habits that the actor can bring to any audition room, stage or set. The student learns that the actor must become one with the character, living truthfully in the moment and the actor/technician overseeing, timing, stage direction, blocking and camera work, props and any surprises that may arise with live TV or stage productions.

TEEN/ADULT ACTING (15 & UP)-  THURSDAY 6:00-8:00pm  Instructor: Holly Lorge

TEEN ACTING (13-17 YEARS) - MONDAYS 5:30-7:30PM  Instructor: Lisa Ellison

ON CAMERA FOR 14 & UP

The On Camera experience will prepare novices and seasoned actors for facing the camera focusing on the audition process and the needed skills for success.

Each month will flow as follows:

Students are paired for the Month with a scene. Professionally written two person scenes appropriate for all ages. Each student will be assigned a role.

Week 1 - 1/2 the class will be taped reading the scene while their counterpart is off camera reading the other role. Only the actors involved in the scene, the instructor, auditors, and any “producers” (explained later) will be in the theater. Then the tapes will be reviewed with all in the theater.

Week 2 - Same process but with the other half of the actors being taped.

Week 3 - Back to the week 1 actors on camera - but this time OFF BOOK for at least the first two pages (actors can work on memorizing more of the work, we will tape as much as time permits) . Again reviewed with all in the theater.

Week 4 - Same process with the other half of the class.

If a student is absent, the other scene partner will get the camera time with an assigned reader.

If a student joins mid-month they will get to be an assigned reader for any absentees. AND be allowed to watch all the “Audition’s” in the theater and learn the inside view of what casting and producers are really looking for. Demystifying the process.

TEEN/ADULT (14 & up) - Tuesdays 5:30-7:30PM

SCENE STUDY 8 WEEK WORKSHOP AGE: 14 & UP

You will learn the actual process of scene study, crafting the moments, emotions, intentions, and desires of the character, this is the skill set sought after by directors on a set. Knowing to “raise the stakes” and not “play the end of the scene” are techniques that develop with time and practice and mark the differences between actors.

In the true style of Milton Katseles, Founder of the Beverly Hills Playhouse, and Martin Landau via the current teachings of Joe Palese of The Actor Space, this scene study technique is very accessible to even the novice actor as long as the passion and the desire to learn are there.

To the actor, the process is valuable and infinitely rewarding for their art. To the Director, the techniques create an actor who is confident, competent and can be directed (able to make the adjustments on set needed between takes). To the Casting Director the talent becomes marketable as one who is prepared and professional to be put before Producers. To the Producer, the trained talent becomes a resource that can be called upon when such character(s) appear in a script.

PRETEENS AGE 8-13 ON CAMERA

On Camera Class: Learn how to make the camera “work for you”. All students work in front of the camera every class, watch the playbacks and then repeat the exercise on camera to incorporate the techniques and notes that will improve the first take. You will learn and understand the importance of the various shots used in television and film and how to take full advantage of the framing, staying in frame and when in extreme close-up “less is more”. This is not stage acting. This is in your face, up close and personal and those actors who know how to make this medium work for them will work on camera.

PRETEEN ON CAMERA (8-13) - THURSDAYS 4-6PM
