SCENE STUDY AGE: 16 & UP

You will learn the actual process of scene study, crafting the moments, emotions, intentions, and desires of the character, this is the skill set sought after by directors on a set. Knowing to “raise the stakes” and not “play the end of the scene” are techniques that develop with time and practice and mark the differences between actors.

In the true style of Milton Katseles, Founder of the Beverly Hills Playhouse, and Martin Landau via the current teachings of Joe Palese of The Actor Space, this scene study technique is very accessible to even the novice actor as long as the passion and the desire to learn are there.

To the actor, the process is valuable and infinitely rewarding for their art. To the Director, the techniques create an actor who is confident, competent and can be directed (able to make the adjustments on set needed between takes). To the Casting Director the talent becomes marketable as one who is prepared and professional to be put before Producers. To the Producer, the trained talent becomes a resource that can be called upon when such character(s) appear in a script.

PRETEEN AGE 8-13 For TV & FILM

Scene work, cold reading and auditioning skills will be introduced, breaking down the text and solving the who, what, when, where and whys of each character. We bring in what came before and where are we going?  Actors will learn to be brilliant detectives in uncovering in the text the absolute truth of the material thru established problem solving techniques. We are building upon solid habits that the actor can bring to any audition room, stage or set. The student learns that the actor must become one with the character, living truthfully in the moment and the actor/technician overseeing, timing, stage direction, blocking and camera work, props and any surprises that may arise with live TV or stage productions.

PRETEEN ACTING (8-13) - Thursdays 4PM-6PM, Saturdays 10AM-12PM

Instructor: Melissa Chantelle Hary (Thurs) and Nomar Mendoza(Saturday)
