Advanced Modeling
Now that students are confident and projecting a positive self image we move on to the business of modeling. Students will learn about all of the different types of modeling and which they are best suited for. This includes high fashion and runway, editorial and commercial print, convention, and showroom. Students will learn runway techniques including the models walk, turns, pivots and routines, body control and movement. They will learn to move like a model in front of the camera and what is expected of them at different types of photo shoots such as catalog, commercial, or editorial. Models will participate in at least one photo shoot during this course with a local photographer which will be critiqued in class. Models will learn professional makeup for photography and runway as well as agency procedure, vouchers, interviews, agency fees, zed cards and portfolios. ACTING
4-7 years
Introductory Child Acting
With beginning child actors the emphasis is on personal power. They are encouraged to be big, bold and courageous! In the first weeks of class through a variety of theater games and improvisation, child actors will gain confidence and discover their uniqueness. As the class progresses students begin to work with memorized materials. We will work on speech and diction, pronunciation, and proper emphasis. They will learn the importance of working together and respect for others. Child actors will learn to work in front of a camera, staging and beginning terminology. They will learn to take direction, pay attention, listen and respond: all while having fun! By the end of the beginners session child actors will begin to understand what the business of acting is all about.
Intermediate to Advanced Child Acting
Now that we have the child actor confident, bold and courageous we introduce commercial copy and scene work, the audition process and auditioning skills, role playing, emotional variety, body language and movement, hitting your mark, blocking and props. The child actor will learn what their job is as an actor. Child actors will be ready to begin auditioning during this session. As we progress to the advanced stages of acting the class is designed and tailored for any child who truly believes they want to pursue acting as a career. The emphasis is on career development, trouble shooting and fine tuning the actor. We require a strong commitment from both the parent and child actor to attend all scheduled classes and to be prepared. They will gain an understanding of the rehearsal process and the discipline and dedication required if cast in a stage play, theatrical production, TV or film. Students are required to work on material for public presentation and have several audition pieces ready at all times. All students at the advanced level will produce and perform in a live production.
8-12 yrs. and 13 and Up
Introductory Acting
Learning to act is a process of self-discovery, developing imagination, and practice in expressing oneself clearly. Students in this class through disciplined practice learn the fundamentals of acting. With improvisation, theater games and specific acting exercises the student learns how to really listen and react. Actors will learn how to work in front of a camera, staging and beginning terminology. Students will also learn relaxation techniques to alleviate fear and anxiety. Acting is doing and in this class we instill life long habits that the actor can use in all aspects of their lives. Focus in the beginning acting class is on building self esteem, self respect, and respect for others as well as team building.
Intermediate to Advanced Acting
The intermediate work begins by adding Emotional Preparation to the routine established in the beginning work. Now we add text, memorization and emotional preparation while maintaining the integrity of the beginning work. Scene work is introduced, breaking down the text and solving the who, what, when, and whys of each character. We bring in what came before and where are we going? as we uncover with very specific script analysis technique, who is the character, I the actor will become? Actors will learn to be brilliant detectives in uncovering in the text the absolute truth of the material thru established problem solving techniques that will become second nature to the actor. We are building upon solid habits that the actor can bring to any audition room, stage or set, never losing the uniqueness of each and every student that comes before us. Now that the actor is expert at extracting from the text the truth of the material and can function spontaneously and instinctually bringing clarity and meaning to a scene we now move on to the artistic interpretation of the work. The student learns that the actor must become one with the character, living truthfully in the moment and the actor/technician overseeing, timing, stage direction, blocking and camera work, props and any surprises that may arise with TV or stage productions. With the aid of improvisation while staying in character the actor now becomes confident and secure with his talent and his craft and will proudly say to anyone that will listen I am an actor. Emphasis in the advanced acting class is on career development. Advanced actors are required to have material ready for public presentation and will be encouraged to audition on a regular basis for local productions and all agent auditions. All students at the advanced level will produce and perform in a live production.
VOICE
Introductory Voice
In the beginning vocal class students will learn the basics of proper breathing, warm up techniques, caring for the voices, correct posture, overcoming stage fright and nervousness, and basic terminology associated with singing. The goal of the introductory level is to build confidence and prepare for a performance of at least one song at the end of the session. The song will be of the performers choosing (with instructor approval) and will be performed memorized. There are many styles of songs to choose from. You may choose pop, classical, musical theatre or any other type of music, as long as it is approved. (All voice students MUST provide background music with no vocals by the 4th week of class or a new song will be chosen for you and background music provided by Voice Instructor)
Intermediate to Advanced Voice
The intermediate to advanced level is for students who have completed the beginning level and are ready for advancement or for students who have had some vocal training but not performance experience. At this level, students will expand their musical repertoire, while learning better breath control, improve their vocal range, stage presence, and microphone technique, In addition, participants will learn to look for proper performance technique and help their fellow classmates by providing reinforcing feedback after performances. Now that the student has learned proper singing techniques we will work on any obstacles that may prevent them from singing the way they want to sing. We will work on clarity, timber and tone, phrasing, successful transition between registers and how to reach your audience emotionally. This section will include learning a larger number of songs. Students will choose different types of songs and prepare for a performance at the end of the year in a public venue. The types of songs will be a broader range and may include songs in other languages if students show an interest. In addition to singing, we will discuss other topics that surround music, including basic music reading skills and other advanced techniques. Advanced students will have the opportunity to work with experienced song writers to learn the basics of song writing. All students at the advanced level will produce and perform in a live production.
